One of the biggest problems a child or adult with a wheelchair disability like cerebral palsy faces is remaining dignified when moving from place to place particularly if being transported by different methods.
Not only does the transfer from one mode of transport to another present difficulties for the child or adult being moved there is stress on those lifting and manoeuvring safely and these assistants are often family, friends or carers.
Perhaps this is worth considering it is called the PROMOVE sling which provides a comfortable and dignified means of being transferred from a wheelchair, enabling the disabled individual to enjoy so many more experiences.
What makes the award winning PROMOVE sling different to other slings is that it is designed specifically for use where a hoist is not an option.
The PROMOVE sling provides disabled children and adults with the freedom to transfer to a theme-park ride, a sailing boat or canoe, or to just enjoy the opportunity of lying on the beach or lawn. It can be the answer to staying at grandma's house, where access may not be so good!
The sling is simply placed beneath a seated individual, very much like a conventional sling, but once in place it enables a team of two, three or four operatives to lift and move the individual safely. Body weight is evenly supported with no pressure points, eliminating risks of bruising, skin shearing, fractures or dislocations. The load is distributed between two or more operatives and each operative is provided with good handholds, therefore the risk of musculoskeletal injury caused by inappropriate lifting is dramatically reduced. Each sling size can accommodate a range of different sized individuals: child size 1 is suitable for a child of approximately 3 years of age to 10, child size 2 is suitable for children from the age of about 8 and can accommodate adolescents and smaller adults while the adult size is suitable for larger children and adolescents, and just about any size of adult. Each of the sizes is available with the option of head support. PROMOVE slings provide a safer means of transfer, whatever the level of disability.
