About this policy
CerebralPalsy.org.uk is operated by Bridge McFarland LLP. This policy explains the cookies and similar browser storage used by this website. For information about the organisation responsible for your personal information, your rights and how to contact us, read our Privacy Policy.
What are cookies and browser storage?
Cookies are small pieces of information stored by your browser that can be sent back to a website when you visit it. Websites can also use local storage and session storage to remember information on your device. These work differently from cookies, but both are relevant to understanding what a website stores.
Display preferences
Our Display options panel lets you change text size, contrast, colour and motion settings. When you choose an option, the website saves your preferences in your browser’s local storage under the name cp-display-preferences. This lets the same browser remember your choices on future visits.
This record contains your display choices. It is not an advertising identifier and is not sent to us by the display-settings feature. It has no automatic expiry and stays until it is replaced or your browser clears it.
We also use a session-storage record called cp-display-options-pulsed. This remembers that the Display options button has already drawn attention to itself, so that the prompt is not repeated on every page during the same tab session. It normally clears when that tab session ends.
Cookies for website editors
The website uses WordPress. Authorised editors who visit the login screen or sign in may receive cookies that check browser support, keep them signed in and remember administration preferences. These are associated with managing the website; you do not need an account to read our public information pages.
WordPress cookie names can include wordpress_test_cookie, wordpress_logged_in_*, wordpress_sec_* and wp-settings-*. Their duration depends on the cookie and login settings. Signing out ends the login session; browser controls can remove remaining stored cookies.
Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics
We plan to use Google Tag Manager to manage Google Analytics on this website. Analytics will help us understand which information visitors use and how they move through the site, so we can improve its content and usability. This setup is not yet active.
When introduced, analytics will be optional. We will provide controls to accept or reject analytics and to change your choice later. Analytics will only be activated after you consent; you will still be able to read the website if you decline.
Google Analytics can collect information about pages viewed, interactions, referral sources and browser or device characteristics. Its standard cookies include _ga, which distinguishes browsers, and _ga_*, which maintains session information. Google documents a default expiry of two years; the actual settings will be recorded here when the service is configured.
Tag Manager manages tags; the tags it loads determine what information is collected and what cookies are used. Further information is available in Google’s Analytics cookie documentation and Google’s Privacy Policy.
The planned use of analytics does not itself mean advertising or remarketing is enabled. Any additional tracking services will need to be reflected in this policy and the site’s consent controls.
Managing stored information
Use Reset options in the Display options panel to restore the default appearance. Resetting changes the saved preferences to their defaults; it does not remove the storage record.
To remove saved information altogether, use your browser’s settings to clear cookies and site data for CerebralPalsy.org.uk. Depending on your browser, you may also be able to block storage or clear it automatically when browsing ends. Clearing or blocking storage may stop the website remembering your choices and can sign authorised editors out.
Display options controls the appearance of this website. It is not a cookie-consent manager.

Following a resource or story link takes you to another website, which may use its own cookies and tracking services. Review that website’s privacy and cookie information and use its own controls where available.
